Ms Margaret Humphreys
Ms Margaret Humphreys is National Lead of Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support, Office of the National Clinical Advisor, and Group Lead for Chronic Disease, HSE.
Originally qualifying as a dietitian from DIT, Margaret completed her M.Sc. in UCC and has over 30 years of experience working in clinical and managerial practice across a variety of community, acute hospital and academic settings. Her specialist area is diabetes care and she is a member of the Integrated Care Programme for the Prevention and Management of Chronic Disease team. As part of her current role she leads a number of Slaintecare projects related to the development, delivery and evaluation of Self-Management education and support for the prevention and management of diabetes in adults.
She is leading on the implementation of a National Diabetes Prevention programme for the Republic of Ireland. She will sit as a member of the CDP-CDP Executive Programme Advisory Board. She will contribute her detailed, in-depth knowledge and guidance in relation to the design, development and implementation of the two diabetes-focused PhD projects. She will ensure that these projects and the training delivered as part of the programme is aligned with national policy in the context of current and future service delivery plans. She will advise the project teams to ensure the research relates to and informs “real world” implementation, and facilitate the development of relationships between the research team and people working within the healthcare system.
