Meet the CDP-CDP consortium
Mr Neil Johnson
CEO, CROI Heart and Stroke Charity, and National Institute for Prevention & Cardiovascular Health (NIPC)
Neil has over 30 years leadership, management and development experience in the 'not for profit' sector, twenty eight of which in the field of cardiovascular health - working across service development; prevention, rehabilitation; education & training; research; patient engagement and patient advocacy. He is an Honorary Clinical Fellow of the School of Medicine National University of Ireland, Galway and Fellow of the National Institute for Prevention and Cardiovascular Health. He has led and managed many significant projects in cardiovascular health promotion, and is a founder of Ireland's first Heart & Stroke Centre dedicated to Cardiovascular Health & Wellbeing (CROI). He initiated and led the founding of the Irish National Institute for Prevention and Cardiovascular Health (NIPC), which has a strategic alliance with NUI Galway, and also initiated and led the establishment of the Global Heart Hub, the first not-for-profit organisation creating an international alliance of heart patient organisations. The Global Heart Hub is a platform to create a unified and organised voice for those living with or affected by cardiovascular disease.
Neil will join the CDP-CDP Executive Programme Advisory Board and represent public and patient groups. He will facilitate research through his role as Chief Executive of Croi, a key national stakeholder in the development of training, services and research for Cardiac Rehabilitation in Ireland. Mr. Johnson is in a unique position to act as a national gatekeeper to facilitate the research of CDP-CDP trainees in projects 2 and 5, focusing on cardiovascular prevention. He will ensure that the proposed research is of relevance to the Irish Healthcare system and that the research will impact on national priorities. Neil will advise trainees on dissemination strategies to relevant practice stakeholders and public audiences to support embedding project findings at national policy level and encouraging widespread public dissemination of the research.
