Exercise-Based Rehabilitation Programme (On Campus)
A Cancer Exercise Programme Designed for You
Cancer treatments have many adverse effects that impact the health and fitness of the patient. Advances in cancer treatment have led to an increase in the number of patients living beyond cancer. Many of these patients suffer from long-term or late-emerging effects of cancer and its treatment which significantly reduces their quality of life. The current study plans to develop a home based exercise testing and Can-REACT rehabilitation program aimed to improve health related fitness and quality of life.
Benefits
Opportunity to participate in an full exercise fitness evaluation in a state of the art Exercise testing facility at NUI Galway. Participants will then take part in a 12 week personalised exercise programme. The exercise programme will consist of easy to do “at home” exercises and will be tailored to individual needs and goals. There will be an on campus supervised weekly exercise session organised for each participant. Participants will have access to Gym and Exercise equipment free of cost (provided this is permitted within COVID health guidelines). Participants will receive exercise instruction videos, exercise instruction brochures, online and on campus supervised exercise sessions, access to nutritional advice, Mindfulness, Yoga and well-being workshops. Participants will also receive a personalised progress report at the end of the program.
Time Commitment
- Participation in the pre-exercise fitness test online or on campus – approximately 2 hours
- Commitment to perform the prescribed weekly exercise – approximately 200-300 minutes per week.
- Participate in weekly supervised exercise session of 1 hour for 12 weeks.
- Participate in the end of program evaluation online or on campus– approximately 2 hours.
Supports
There is currently no monetary reimbursement available for participation in this study. Participants will receive expert advice and personalised exercise prescription and supervised weekly exercise sessions . This will be beneficial towards their health and fitness. Participants will also receive a personalised exercise program and progress report.
You will also have free access to all our additional workshops that we plan to organise during the summer including nutritional advice, mindfulness, yoga etc. You will have access to our website, videos, brochures and any other resources created during the study.
