The Technology and Rights Cluster in the School of Law at University of Galway, Centre for Adult Learning and Professional Development and the National Talent Academy for Film & TV Drama will host media and entertainment lawyer Kelsey Farish on Wednesday 18 November, for a free evening masterclass, Navigating AI in the Creative Industries: Creativity, Consent and Control.

AI can now imitate a person's voice, face and style. For writers, performers, musicians and filmmakers, that raises hard questions. Who controls your voice? What did you actually agree to? And what happens when a machine says things in your name, that you would never say?

Kelsey is a London-based solicitor who has advised on AI since 2019. Today she works almost exclusively with the screen sector, advising performers, writers and producers on contracts, consent and digital replicas. She has provided training to bodies including BAFTA, Film London and ScreenSkills, and has spoken on BBC Radio 4's Front Row about why some actors agree to AI voice cloning.

In this session, Kelsey will draw on her own experience to offer practical guidance on how creatives can work alongside AI, protect their work, and ask the right questions. The focus is on contracts, consent, and the balance of power.

The masterclass is part of the 2026 Micro-Credential in Entertainment Law, run by the School of Law and CALPD with support from the National Talent Academy for Film & TV Drama. The programme is expected to run again next year, so anyone interested can keep an eye out.

Event details

The session is open to all, and no prior knowledge of AI is needed.

The National Talent Academy Film and TV is an initiative of Screen Ireland managed by Ardán.
