Jim Fruchterman - Technology for the 90%

The Technology and Rights Cluster is delighted to welcome Jim Fruchterman (https://fruchterman.org/) for a public lecture on 12 October at 5pm. Jim is an engineer and social entrepreneur, a 2006 MacArthur Fellow and Skoll Award laureate, who founded Benetech and built Bookshare into the world's largest accessible library for people who are blind, dyslexic or otherwise print-disabled. He now leads Tech Matters, a nonprofit building open-source software for the social sector, including Aselo, a platform used by crisis and child helplines worldwide, and Terraso, a tool for sustainable land management. He also co-invented Martus, a secure human rights documentation tool, working alongside the Human Rights Data Analysis Group.

His recent book 'Technology for Good: How Nonprofit Leaders Are Using Software and Data to Solve Our Most Pressing Social Problems’ published by MIT Press is available open access and through commercial booksellers https://mitpressbookstore.mit.edu/book/9780262050975
