Supreme Court Visit to University of Galway
Supreme Court Visit to University of Galway 4 to 6 March, 2019
Be A Part Of History
Legal history will be made when the highest court in Ireland, the Supreme Court, sits in the Aula Maxima, University of Galway from 4 to 6 March 2019.
This will be the first time that the Supreme Court will sit outside of a courthouse since it returned to the Four Courts in 1932, the first time it sits in Galway and only the third time the court will sit outside of Dublin. Read more > The Supreme Court of Ireland
The Court will hear two cases while sitting in Galway, one of which will be an appeal against the decision of An Bord Pleanála to approve the first phase of an €850 million Apple data centre in Athenry. Please see Courts.ie for further information.
The School of Law at University of Galway is honoured to host this landmark occasion and will run a series of events on campus such as student seminars and a public event. The School of Law will also co-host a CPD event with the Galway Solicitors’ Bar Association.
The judges of the Supreme Court will participate in these events as part of their commitment to outreach and engagement with the local community and law students. The events provide an unique opportunity to gain an insight into our legal system.
