EMPLOYER: Caitlin Cooney, Principal Operational Excellence Engineer
“Recognising your own skills and the value of those skills can be a challenge for students entering the workforce. The USP is a ground-breaking approach to supporting students, enabling them to recognise their ‘soft’ skills and providing them with a platform to showcase those skills to potential employers. ”
Skills Framework
The Designing Future Skills Framework is a matrix that identifies the core skills that guide the development and implementation of all Designing Futures initiatives. Within the University of Galway, there is an agreed Graduate Attribute Statement as set out in the Teaching and Learning Strategy 2021-2026. This provides the anchor for our skills framework. All identified skills and dispositions are linked back to this agreed and validated structure. The skills framework provides a common reference language for the classification of all activities, curricular and extra/co-curricular that enable our students to develop skills.
STUDENT: Tom Forde, SU Education Officer 2024
“Students really need this. We forget all of the things that we have accomplished. Without professional experience, it can be tricky to identify what skills you have developed, and why they are relevant to an employer. The USP really helps to join the dots….”
