About

ThermE, Thermal Energy Research Made Efficient, based in the College of Engineering and Informatics at the National University of Ireland Galway (NUI Galway), is dedicated to the study of energy conversion and end-use, with focus on thermal techniques, including combustion, gasification, pyrolysis, combined heat and power (CHP), and thermal comfort in the built environment.

Our research projects cover diverse sources of energy from fossil fuels to renewables, and end-use efficiency. Our research sponsors include the Irish Research Council (IRC), Thermo King - Ingersoll Rand, Alstom Power, Rolls-Royce, ESB, Bord na Móna, the Irish Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI).  Our researchers collaborate with other NUI Galway groups including the Combustion Chemistry Centre (C3) and the Informatics Research Unit for Sustainable Engineering (IRUSE), as well as with teams in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Seville, Trinity College Dublin, the University of Limerick, and Queens University Belfast.
