Library Welcome Desk
When: 10am–12pm
Where: Ground floor, James Hardiman Library
Pop into the Library foyer and talk with the staff at the welcome desk for advice and support on Library and IT services. There will also be student ambassadors on hand to help you with any queries. Make sure to attend if you’re having any issues setting up email, Blackboard, Office 365 or Wi-Fi.
You usually need your student ID card to enter the Library but you can let the Library stewards know that you’re a first-year student, and they will open the gate for you. See a list of upcoming Library workshops and events here.
Student Enquiry Centre
When: 12–3pm
Where: Arts/Science Building, Concourse
Drop by our Student Enquiry Centre – your first-stop shop for all your student needs and queries.
Guided Campus Tours
When: 10am - 4pm, running every 30 minutes.
Where: At the Quadrangle
Want to get to know your new campus better? Come along on a campus tour. Each tour group is led by our trained Student Guides who will bring you on an Accessible route from South Campus to Central Campus, showing you our beautiful, historical campus, its buildings and interesting features. The tour takes approximately 40 mins. Our guides are happy to answer questions and make you feel right at home. All are welcome – furry friends and children included.

Student Life 101 – Mandatory Session
When:
- 12-1.30pm, All College of Arts, Social Sciences & Celtic Studies and all College Business, Public Policy & Law students. Why not go to the Student BBQ at the Chaplaincy after the talk and grab some delicious food?
- 2-3.30pm, All College of Science & Engineering and all College of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences students. Fuel up on some delish food at the Student BBQ at the Chaplaincy before this session!

All you need to know to get off to a good start! Get practical tips on surviving and thriving in university from finding your timetable, learning to houseshare, making friends and getting involved in your university community. Presented by your Students’ Union, Student Societies and ALIVE Volunteering.

Meet the Societies, live bands, freebies, free food, play games, win prizes – need we say more? Our campus radio station, Flirt FM will provide the tunes; why not stop by and say hello?

Treasure Hunt
When: 12–1.30pm, 2-3.30pm
Where: Gazebo outside Áras na Mac Léinn foyer
Solve some riddles, get to know your new campus better and make new friends along the way with this fun filled treasure hunt devised by Cumann Staire our History Society. Give your brain a workout for the chance to win the fabulous prizes including €20 on your SU card for the winning team.
Simon Community Pop-Up Shop

Call in to Simon Community's Pop-Up shop and grab some bargains while supporting a good cause!
Student Union's Giant Games
When: 12-4pm
Where: Student Union's Office, upstairs in Áras na Mac Léinn
What's better than games? GIANT GAMES! Join the SU team and challenge yourself to play some classic games in all their oversized glory.
Student BBQ at the Chaplaincy
When: 12–4pm
Where: Gairdín Sosa, Chapel of St Columbanus
Enjoy the beautiful, peaceful scenery of Gairdín Sosa, while chatting with other students and digging into some delish (FREE) BBQ grub, provided by University of Galway’s Chaplaincy. Meet staff and discover the social and study facilities available throughout the year.
Pop-up Gaeltacht
When: 4-6pm
Where: Outside Áras na Mac Léinn
Practice your Gaeilge or learn cúpla focal (a few words) at our Pop-Up Gaeltacht in the gazebos Hosted by Barry Ó Siochrú, and Cumann Gaelach and Cumann Dramaicochta with games and music. Make your own crisp sandwich and have a cup of tea! Fáilte Roimh Chách! Everyone is welcome.
Socs' Games Room

Barbie Party

Socs Talent Show

Where: Bank of Ireland Theatre, Arts/Science Building
Take to the stage along some of University of Galway's performing societies in a talent show extraveganza. Adoring audience members and soon to be stage stars welcome!
Chill Zone

Need a break from all the excitement? Take a moment to chill on the bean bags and chat to your peers!
Freshers’ Party – Evening
When: 8–11pm
Where: Sult College Bar, Áras na Mac Léinn foyer and outside area
Enjoy a free night of music from our live band, Siúcra and our own DJ Society at the student bar, Sult. Flex your favourite dance moves outside at the silent disco. Don't want to miss the Rugby World Cup? It will be screening in the Corrib Room upstairs in Áras na Mac Léinn. Meet new friends and most importantly, have fun!
