Get Going…Get Rowing programme in Connacht to date has:

  • Actively engaged with 9 of Galway’sCity schools
  • introduced hundreds of students to both indoor and rowing on the River Corrib for the past 2 years
  • trained over 50 TrY Students to become coaches themselves
  • provided ergometers (indoor rowing machines) to schools who have completed the TrY rowing coaching and who have fully engaged with the programme
  • through this programme, NUI Galway and Rowing Ireland have sponsored events such as Trinity Indoor Rowing #Blitzit2015 and NUI Galway Schools’ Challenge #Blitzit2016.  The two events introduced over 300 Galway  students to the sport of rowing.
  • actively worked with local rowing clubs to ensure students  can continue with the sport upon completion of Get
    Going… Get Rowing schools programmeThis collaboration has seen the development of the Youth Academy in Galway Rowing Club which is offering a pathyway for the schools programme and has seen a marked increase in schoolgoers joining the local rowing club to pursue the sport.
  • This week is Active Schools Week and Get Going... Get Rowing  has brought over 60 students to the water to try out rowing, presented a talk to 100 Taylors Hill students and conduted a 2 hour rowing session with the assistance of former internrational oarswoman Lisa Dilleen. Finally, 6 city schools are participating in an online national campaign, Row to Rio and Get Going... Get Rowing0 is  overseeing the schools trying to clock up as many KMs as possible on the rowing machines to create awareness of our Irish rowing athletes preparing to compete in Rio this summer.
