Biography

Darragh holds a BSc (hons) (Applied Freshwater and Marine Biology), a MSc in Conservation Behaviour, and a MSc in Global Environmental Economics. His research interests are marine economics, social capital, and marine public policy. Darragh's first master’s thesis explored the effect of diver presence on the behaviour of catsharks and shysharks in the context of assessing the potential bias diver presence has on sampling effort as well as the efficacy of lower cost bait for the purpose of reducing operational costs for NGOs in the area of shark science. Darragh’s second master’s thesis analysed the effect of club membership on willingness to pay for environmental services. Darragh is currently a PhD student in SEMRU and the J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics. The goal of his PhD is to develop a comprehensive set of ecosystem accounts for Ireland's marine and coastal environments using the UN System of Environmental-Economic Accounting – Ecosystem Accounting (SEEA-EA) framework to support sustainable marine planning and policy.
