Biography

Cathal completed a PhD at the University of Galway titled ‘Understanding the Economics of Land Access in Ireland’. The thesis examined how agricultural land markets operate in Ireland and farmer attitudes towards land mobility. Following his PhD, Cathal has worked with the BiOrbic Bioeconomy SFI Research Centre on impact assessments of new bioeconomy sectors and on Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland funded projects examining agricultural land use in relation to bioenergy. Cathal is currently a postdoctoral researcher in SEMRU. His current research involves the development of a spatially explicit modelling framework for the assessment of socio-economic and environmental impacts of Ireland’s marine activities
