DISCOVER GREECE: 28 MARCH–4 APRIL 2025
The Retired Staff Association has been arranging group travel abroad for its members since 2015. Together we have travelled to St. Petersburg, Cuba, Central Spain, Sicily, the Baltic States, Paris, Norway & Alsace. This year, following suggestions from members, we travel to Greece in Spring.  We have chosen dates when maximum temperatures should be about 16–20 deg. with lows of 9–12 deg.
We are now seeking expressions of interest. (See also email sent to members by Donal Igoe in December 2024, that has more details.)

Please indicate your interest to Rosaleen Carroll (E: Rosaleencarroll@gmail.com) by 31 December. The Booking & Deposit window is 1st–6th January 2025. Contact Liz Wagman, The Travel Department at 01 637 1648. Final Payment is due on January 24th.

Announcement: Change to MS-Office access for retired staff (July 2024)

Please see email below, sent to retired staff. (Links in this email follow the image.)

MS office amends

Links in email are in text below:

The online or versions of the Office applications provide most of the features and functionalities of the client version and can be accessed via the Microsoft 365 Portal.  Guides and video tutorials on how to use the online version of Microsoft Office are available on the University’s Microsoft 365 Learning Pathways support site.

Should you wish to continue to use a locally installed copy of Microsoft Office on your device, the most economical way to do this is to purchase a subscription to Microsoft 365 in a personal capacity.  This can be done here and currently costs €69 per annum.

RECEIVING COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE RSA—Notice of events

Since January 2020, in line with the University's environmental sustainability policy, the Retired Staff Association's practice has been to communicate by website and email with the retired staff community.

Arrangements for events organised by the RSA, when confirmed, will be posted on this website. They will be emailed to all retired staff who have agreed to receive emails from the RSA and who have provided an active email address. So, if you would like to receive advance notice of events and activities by email please send your active email address to Donal Igoe (donal.igoe@universityofgalway.ie). The frequency of email posting will be limited and normally should not exceed a monthly emailing.

PODCASTS

The Registrar's Office, in collaboration with the Retired Staff Association, has initiated a series of podcasts to focus on  memorable aspects of University of Galway's history.

Retired staff are invited to propose topics for these 15–20 minute programmes. These can range widely from personal recollections or achievements to important developments or events. Full details, and an Interview proposal form are available here

Further queries may be emailed to Dermot Flaherty (Deputy President & Registrars Office), or Michael Cuddy (Retired Staff Association, University of Galway).

The first podcast, which recalls the visit of Nelson Mandela to the University, went online in February 2021.

PARKING PERMITS

Remember that parking permits need to be renewed yearly (normally in late August/early September). For information about parking for retired staff contact the Office of the Chief Operating Officer (091) 493 632.
