Other University events
Other events
Retired staff have access to a wide range of social events, courses, conferences etc. organized by or hosted in the University. This includes membership of associations and societies.
Here we list a number of the options and suggest ways of staying in touch with what is on.
If you'd like to receive direct notifications from the University or organizers, you will, in some cases, need to provide your nuigalway.ie address: see the 'Email' tab on our Services & Facilities page for how to (re)establish one.
Staff Club. Retired staff are automatically members of the Staff Club. They can receive notice of events at their nuigalway.ie address, and have access to the club in the Quadrangle at no charge. Note that after 5 pm an ID card is needed for entry: the ‘ID Card’ tab on our Services & Facilities page has information about obtaining one.
Alumni Association. Retired staff are eligible for membership, whether or not they are graduates of NUIG, and can attend events organized by the Association. These include the Annual Gala Dinner. For information contact the Alumni Office on 091-492972 or check the NUIG Alumni (and Friends) News and Events page.
Conferences, seminars, lectures, book launches, etc. Retired staff interested in being informed about particular areas should contact the relevant Department, College or Administrative section, to be put on their mailing lists.
For advance notice of research seminars etc., see the 'Events' pages of the following Research Institutes:
The Institute for Lifecourse and Society; The Moore Institute; The Ryan Institute; The Whitaker Institute.
Short Courses. Fee concessions are available to retired staff enrolling in the Short Courses offered by NUIG’s Centre for Adult Learning and Professional Development. In 2017 registration closes on 27 September and courses start on 2 October. See this year’s list of courses here. For information on Diploma and Postgraduate courses, see the Centre’s website.
An Dialann, NUIG’s e-diary of events, is sent to the nuigalway.ie address of current and retired staff by the Press & Information Office every Friday. It provides brief information with links to further details. These links can easily be activated on campus. If you are off campus you can access them via the Staff Intranet. See too the NUIG Events Calendar.
