Module code NU644 - January (PFC5)

This module aims to broaden and build students’ repertoire of teaching strategies beyond traditional didactic approaches. Students will be introduced to the techniques and strategies of teaching groups and will have an opportunity to develop and practise their skills through role-play and simulations. Students will also explore the concept of “student engagement” and will examine how to: (1) incorporate active learning strategies into their classes and (2) use technologies to support teaching and promote student interest. Approaches to skills teaching in simulated and practice settings are also addressed.

The module is delivered using blended learning including (3 day workshops) and is delivered over 12 weeks.  The module is comprised of four units:

Unit 1:  Small Group Teaching
Unit 2:  Skills Teaching
Unit 3:  Using Technology to Support Teaching 
Unit 4:  Student Engagement

Target Market 
This module is multidisciplinary and welcomes applications from healthcare professionals from the wider multidisciplinary team (including medical doctors, nurses, midwives, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists).

Prerequisite

  • Applicants must be registered healthcare professionals currently working in an Irish primary care setting.
  • Have an opportunity to teach in their current practice.
  • To meet the module learning outcomes you must undertake a minimum of 10 hours of teaching.
