Clinical Supervision: Supporting Continuing Professional Development
Module code NU6622 - September (PFC1)
This module on clinical supervision (CS) aims to provide the students with the required knowledge and practical skills to become effective supervisees/supervisors, and will thus enhance the implementation of CS frameworks in practice. By providing a framework that encourages review and reflection in practice, CS enhances the development of critical skills thinking, improves clinical standards, reduces clinician stress and burnout, strengthens professional identity and enhances the quality of patient/client care. The module is delivered using blended learning including (2 days workshops) that will focus on peer group CS, and is delivered over 12 weeks. The module is comprised of four units:
Unit 1: Introduction to clinical supervision / peer group clinical supervision
Unit 2: Clinical supervision psychological concepts
Unit 3: Key principles of effective implementation and challenges of clinical supervision
Unit 4: Development and application of skills
Target Market
This module is multidisciplinary and welcomes applications from healthcare professionals from the wider multidisciplinary team (including medical doctors, MHN’s, RGN’S, practice nurses, public health nurses, RNID’s, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists) in acute, care of the older person, rehabilitation, continued care and community services.
Prerequisite
- Students must have a letter from the Director of Nursing stating that they will be supported during the module, as students will receive CS and will be required to deliver peer group CS and one-one CS in the practice area (Clinical Supervision support letter template).
- Applicants must be registered healthcare professionals currently working in an Irish primary care setting.
