The Vice-President for Research & Innovation has responsibility for advancing the research and innovation strategy and mission of the university.

The Office of the Vice-President for Research & Innovation, through its four core units – Research Office, Innovation Office, Graduate Studies Office and Clinical Research Development Office – consisting of a team of professional support staff – supports and enables the University’s research and innovation remit.   

Professor Lokesh Joshi

Professor Lokesh Joshi is the Acting Vice-President of Research & Innovation. Professor Joshi is the Stokes Professor of Glycosciences at  University of Galway. His research examines the role of proteins and carbohydrates during health and disease states in chronic diseases and infections. He is the founder of an environmentally conscious medical technology company, Aquila Bioscience, which is developing nature-inspired pathogen capture and decontamination technology as a safer alternative to chemicals that are harmful to people and the planet.
