Biography

Caroline McGregor was apppointed to NUI Galway, now University of Galway in 2012 as Professor at the School of Political Science and Sociology (Social Work) and Senior Researcher at the UNECSO Child and Family Research Centre. 

 Caroline is currently the Director of the Institute for Lifecourse and Society.  Institute for Lifecourse and Society (ILAS) - University of Galway

Caroline teaches a range of subjects including support and protection social work across the lifecourse, socio-legal practice and Human rights, dissertation, critical social work and anti-oppressive practice.  Her other main teaching is on the Postgraduate Diploma in Social Work, Supervision and Management, the MA in Family Support and an Introduction to Social Work module for undergraduate students.   


Formerly Dr Caroline Skehill from Queen's University Belfast (up to 2012), her current project and publication work is focused on: support and protection across the lifecourse, practice-theory developments in social work,  family support services and policy and 'protective support and supportive protection' in child welfare,  youth and civic engagement, child protection and welfare and research impact and advocacy. Caroline also has  had experience of research and publication in relation to a range of other areas including history of the present methodologies, socio-legal studies and  young people in and leaving care.    Other research/publication interests include the history of present social work and child protection in Ireland and Europe.

Caroline has worked collaboratively with colleagues at the UNESCO Child and Family Reseach Centre since 2012 with an emphasis on research with persons with direct experience of care past and present, family support, prevention, early intervention and child protection Projects - University of Galway.
