Biography

Dr. Mamoona Asghar is working as Lecturer (Above the Bar) in the School of Computer Science, the National University of Ireland since January 05, 2022. She has more than 15 years of lecturing and R&D experience in Ireland, UK, and Pakistan since 2006. She received her Ph.D. degree from the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering, University of Essex, Colchester, U.K., in 2013. During her academic appointment in the public-sector university of Pakistan, she received a Competitive Research Grant (No.:6282/Punjab/NRPU/R&D/HEC/2016) of 1.8 million PKR (~13000 USD) awarded by the HEC of Pakistan under the National Research Program for Universities (2016).  In 2017, she received a prestigious Marie Sklodowska Curie (MSC) Career-FIT International Fellowship for 03 years in the Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT), Athlone, Ireland for the project titled "Distributed analytics for a large urban CCTV system". This award was funded by the European Union's Horizon2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie grant agreement No. 713654 (Funding: 259900 Euro). This MSC fellowship was a collaborative project with an industry partner Evercam Ltd, Dublin.
She has also received two research grants from the President Doctoral Scholarship (PDS) programme in 2019 and 2020 at AIT, Ireland to supervise two Ph.D. scholars (Funding for each student: 77000 Euro).
She has published several ISI indexed journal articles along with numerous international conference papers. She is actively involved in reviewing research articles for renowned journals/conferences and has participated as a session chair. She is also an IEEE Senior Member. Her key research area is cybersecurity including security aspects of multimedia (image, audio, and video), compression, visual privacy, encryption, steganography, secure transmission in future networks, video quality metrics, key management schemes, computer vision algorithms, deep learning models, and General Data Protection Regulation (EU-GDPR).
