Biography

Verena Platzgummer earned her PhD in linguistics from the University of Vienna in 2021. In her research, she takes a critical sociolinguistic approach to linguistic repertoires, language ideologies and language policies, addressing the complexity of historical minority spaces in the light of more recent immigration. Her research so far has focused on the trilingual Italian province of South Tyrol, where she grew up herself. At the University of Galway, she works as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the project 'Gaeltacht Families and Multilingualism' (GAELFAM).
