Biography

Dr. Joseph Lemley, is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in the School of Computer Science at the University of Galway, specializing in neural networks, artificial intelligence, computer vision, and neuromorphic computing. He earned his PhD in 2020 on the topic of "Deep learning techniques in data augmentation and neural network design". He earned his Master of Science in Computational Science at Central Washington University in 2016 with a thesis topic of Computational Geometry and Computer Vision.

Before joining the University of Galway, he worked as a distinguished engineer within the office of the CTO as the leader of the Sensing team at Xperi (Fotonation) Ireland. In this capacity he led a large R&D team with 7 full time engineers and multiple PhD students, postdocs, and university collaborators developing AI driven computer vision and sensor technologies, often with a particular focus on driver monitoring and psychophysiological trait estimation.

His research interests are: Neuromorphic computing, time event cameras, thermal imaging, computer vision, artificial intelligence, spiking neural networks, and deep learning.
