Biography

Dr Sharon Walsh is a Lecturer in Economics at the J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics at the University of Galway. Prior to joining the Discipline of Economics, Sharon worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher in both the Centre for Economic and Social Research on Dementia, and the Health Economics and Policy Analysis Centre at the University of Galway. She completed a PhD in Economics at the University of Galway in 2017, and she also holds a Masters in Economics, and Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Geography from University College Cork (UCC).

Her research interests lie in the application of applied economic methods to explore and inform important policy questions related to health and ageing. In particular, she applies these techniques to examine key economic issues of finance, provision, and access in the context of ageing and health policy. In terms of her methodological expertise, she employs discrete choice experiments, applied econometrics, geographic information systems and evidence synthesis, including systematic reviews and meta-analysis to explore these questions.
