Summer Research Scholarships
The GNC Summer Research Scholarship are designed to give undergraduate students hands-on neuroscience research experience with the aim of encouraging and aiding them to consider a research career in neuroscience and develop a strong application to a PhD scholarship scheme such as the Irish Research Council.
Scholarships are available for eight weeks over the summer months and provide a stipend for the student. Research costs are not provided.
Students must identify and work with a GNC PI to support their application. Application for these scholarships open in Feb/March.
Successful scholarship students will present their research findings at the GNC Annual Research Day
The first scholarships were awarded in 2022 to
· Maria Lipceanu who undertook a project examining mechanism underlying wound healind under the supervision of Prof David Finn
· Ieva Vainoraite to undertake a project examining neural mechanism underlying altered pain responding associated with autism under the supervision of Dr Michelle Roche

- Aoife O’Connell, who investigated the spatio-temporal hippocampal neuronal activity post Aβ exposure under the supervision of Dr Andrea Kwakowsky in the Discipline of Pharmacology and Therapeutics.

- Matthew Stevens, who examined Uncinate Fasciculus Microstructural Tract Integrity and Social Cognition in People with Schizophrenia compared to matched controls. His project was conducted under the supervision of Dr Tom Burke in the School of Psychology.
