School Visits and START
- School Visits
GNC members promote general awareness and understanding of the brain and nervous system to school children at both primary and secondary level. These sessions are designed to be a fun way to learn neuroscience and to instil a love of learning and a thirst for knowledge at a young age.
- START
Established by the Health Research Board – Trials Methodology Research Network (HRB-TMRN), the Schools Teaching Awareness of Randomised Trials (START) competition invites primary school students in 4th, 5th & 6th classes to lead on an exciting project and create their very own fun randomised clinical trial in the classroom. GNC members participate in the final of the competition where they set up an interactive exhibition for students to learn about the brain in an interactive way. Our participation in the most recent START competition is described in this link.
GNC members also participate in the START “Meet the Scientist” providing primary school students a short overview on how the brain works, what it is like to work as a neuroscientist and an insight into some of their research. These short presentations are then followed by a Q&A session with the students. In 2024, over 2000 children participated in the live webinar.
