Programme Team
Programme Team
The educational elements of the Programme are provided by staff from the Institute of Technology Sligo and NUI Galway. Additonal lecturing is provided by industry experts from the Medical Technology sector. Workshops also involve contributions from industry practitioners.
Terry Smith
Terry Smith is the NUI Galway Professor of Biomedical Engineering Science. He is the co-director of the MSc. in Medical Technology Regulatory Affairs, and academic director of an MSc. in Biomedical Science (full-time). His research is focused on the design and development of novel molecular diagnostics tests for infectious diseases, and their clinical application. Terry has a BA. Moderatorship Degree (Microbiology) from Trinity College Dublin and a D.Phil. degree from Oxford University.

Mary Butler is a Lecturer in the School of Science at the Institute of Technology, Sligo and an Adjunct Lecturer in Biomedical Engineering Science, within the School of Natural Sciences at NUI Galway. Mary manages many distance learning programmes in the areas of Regulatory Affairs and Biopharmaceutical Science across Levels 6 - 9. Mary has significant experience in programme development and accreditation and has worked with many stakeholders including industry, IMDA, NIBRT, NUI Galway, RCSI and GMIT.

Dr. Olivia McDermott is a Quality Engineer (NUIG MSc. 1999) with a doctorate in Quality in the Supply Chain (University of Middlesex 2009). Dr. McDermott has worked in industry as a Senior Quality Manager in numerous roles including Operations Quality, Supplier Quality, Customer Complaints and Lean Six Sigma Quality across various multinationals including Ingersoll-Rand, Dell Inc., and Boston Scientific. She also has completed post-doctoral research in UL on Lean & Quality in Healthcare.
