Mayo Medical Academy
Welcome to Mayo Medical Academy
Mayo Medical Academy Graduation 2023Mayo Medical Academy is a branch of the Univeristy of Galway Medical School. There are approximately 60 students here currently in their third/fourth and final year of training. The Academy started in 2012 and moved into its current premises in 2015. All staff at the Mayo Medical Academy are committed to providing a positive and supportive learning environment for all students that pass through. Mayo Medical Academy was officially opened by An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny on 14th December, 2015.
What Does Our Academy Offer?
The Academy is a peripheral academy of University of Galway. Each student who attends is in the Academy for a full year and becomes integrated in Mayo University Hospital. Mayo University Hospital has been linked with Liondiani Hospital Kenya since 2009.

How to get here:
- Knock International Airport - Knock Airport is 40km north of Castlebar. The cost of a taxi from Knock to Castlebar is approximately €55. Alternatively, Bus Eireann operates a bus service from the airport to Castlebar. Please click here for futher details.
- Iarnród Éireann/Irish Rail - There is a train service from Castlebar to Dublin which takes approximately 3.5 hours. Please see the Irish Rail website for timetable information.
- Bus Eireann operate regular country-wide bus services to and from Castlebar. Please find timetables here.
- TFI Local Link bus - This service connect communities throughout rural Ireland as part of the TFI Public Transport Network. They form a network of affordable bus services for everyone who wants to travel to travel to or from local towns and villages. We have two different types of Local Link service: Regular Rural Bus Services and Door-to-Door Bus Services. Please find timetables here
