Biography

I am an honours graduate of NUIG completing my undergraduate training in 2003. Following internship I worked for one year in Emergency Medicine in a busy ED outside sunny Brisbane, Australia. On my return from Australia, I spent another year working as a medical house officer in Galway before securing a place on the Mid-Western GP Training program.  In 2010 I completed my specialist training, gaining membership of the ICGP and have practiced as a GP since.

I always had an interest in medical education and in 2012 I completed a diploma in Health Science (Clinical Education). Since then I have enjoyed balancing my career between both clinical practice in a busy Galway city surgery and undergraduate teaching at the NUIG academy in Portiuncula hospital, Ballinasloe.  I have lectured in Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology but in 2014 I commenced a post lecturing General Practice to 4th year medical students.  In 2014 I worked as GP lead on the development of an e-learning module on depression which, was a collaboration between the department of General Practice and Psychiatry. This year I hope to complete a Masters in Clinical Education.

I enjoy nothing more than travelling to new places whenever I can.
