Undergraduate Teaching Programmes
Understanding how the function of the various bodily systems is regulated and integrated in order to maintain optimum function within the human body is a core feature of the Physiology programme at NUI Galway. By gaining insight into how the body functions under normal healthy conditions, this enables greater understanding of what and how such processes go wrong in disease states i.e. pathophysiology. Therefore, physiology is a core subject in undergraduate programmes in Medicine, Nursing, Health Science, Science and Biomedical Science
Being housed in the Human Biology Building enables students studying physiology to be taught and learn in an environment with the latest state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities. The staff in the discipline of Physiology are committed to delivering high quality engaging teaching across all levels. A wide array of teaching methodologies and technologies are utilised in the disclipine in order to enhance student learning and experience. To aid this, many of the staff have obtained additional teaching qualifications, received awards for their teaching and undertake research in the development of new teaching methodologies and practices.
Laboratory practicals are a key component of the teaching tool box in physiology and are used to complement theoretical teaching and enable our students gain a deep knowledge of the subject of physiology.
