Biography


Dr Aoife Howard is a lecturer in the Discipline of Health Promotion in the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of Galway. Aoife completed a MSc Health Economics in 2010 at the University of Galway and graduated with a PhD in Population Health and Health Services Research from Trinity College, Dublin in 2015. Aoife's PhD research examined parents' preferences of care services for children with neurodevelopmental disabilities in Ireland. Aoife worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the School of Health and Related Research (ScHARR) at the University of Sheffield in the U.K and she also worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Economics department at the University of Galway. Aoife previously worked as the Assistant Director of Academic Affairs on the SPHeRE PhD programme at the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland.

Aoife joined the Discipline of Health Promotion in 2022. Her current role at the University of Galway involves teaching and supervision on the MA Health Promotion Masters program, the development of micro-credentials offerings in Mental Health Promotion and Promoting Youth Health in Educational settings. Aoife is the Current Director of Postgraduate Research at the Discipline of Health Promotion. 

Teaching Interests - Research Methods, Mental Health Promotion, Youth Health in Educational Settings, Health Promotion and Micro-credentials.

Research Interests - Health Behaviour of school aged children (HBSC), Children and young people's mental health, Supportive environments, Youth mental health, Health Services Research, Policy Implementation and Stakeholder research.
