Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - Downloading & Installing
Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - Downloading & Installing
The Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool checks Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows Server 2003 computers for and helps remove infections by specific, prevalent malicious software, including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom. When the detection and removal process is complete, the tool displays a report describing the outcome, including which, if any, malicious software was detected and removed. The tool creates a log file named mrt.log in the %WINDIRÞbug folder.
Note: MSR Tool is a once off utility that will only find a certain set of spyware/viruses at any given time. Microsoft do update it regularly but it should not be considered a replacement for McAfee.
To download and Install the Microsoft MSR Tool, go to Microsoft Download Center
- Click on Download.
- Once the File Download window opens, select Run.
- To start the scan for malicious software on your computer, click Next
- Select Quick Scan and click Next
- On completion of scan click Finish to exit
