Biography
Jurgita is a postdoctoral researcher based at the Irish Centre for Human Rights, School of Law and at the Global Women’s Centre, School of Political Science and Sociology, University of Galway. As part of the United Nations Joint Global Programme on Essential Services for Women and Girls Subject to Violence and in partnership with the Centre for Global Women’s Studies, she conducts research focused on supporting the pilot and implementation of the Global Resource Investment Tool of the Essential Services Package for women and girls subject to gender-based violence (ESP). Jurgita is also a researcher in the EU Horizon multi-institutional and multi-country research project that explores building capacities for excellent research and innovation in democracy and policy through networking, knowledge, and experience transfer. She is a module instructor of Public International Law (LL. B) in the School of Law and Gender and Human Rights (LL. M) in the Irish Centre for Human Rights at the University of Galway.
Jurgita’s research and expertise focus on gender equality, gender-based violence, violence against women, including domestic violence and coercive control, the concept of gender in international human rights law and national legislative frameworks, applied research on gender-based violence and assessing the cost of violence against women and girls.
Her academic experience has been merged with a lengthy practical engagement in domestic violence support and advocacy non-governmental organisation, where she is a Board Member and a Trustee.
