Dr Mais Qandeel Appointed as Assistant Professor/Lecturer in International Law

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Mais Qandeel as Assistant Professor / Lecturer in International Law at the Irish Centre for Human Rights and School of Law.  Dr Qandeel brings extensive experience in research and teaching on international humanitarian law, and international law and armed conflict. Dr Qandeel will make an important contribution to the Irish Centre for Human Rights and School of Law’s global reputation for teaching and research on peacebuilding, conflict and international justice.

Dr. Qandeel is currently Associate Professor (Docent) of International Law / Law and Technologies at Örebro University, Sweden, with more than 15 years of experience at national and international human rights organizations/institutions in, among others, Switzerland, Belgium, The Netherlands, USA and Palestine. Her research has three themes: i) the question of Palestine under Occupation, ii) implications of new technologies on human rights – human rights in cyberspace in connection with cyber norms and cybersecurity - and the rule of law, and iii) the protection of the environment in international law.  She has extensive experience in international humanitarian law and the question of Palestine. Dr Qandeel holds an LLM of international law from the University of Pittsburgh, USA, and a Ph.D. of international humanitarian law ( with a focus on Palestine) from the University of Fribourg, Switzerland.  She is the author of, among others, Violence and State Attribution: The Case of Palestine, and The Palestinian Environment under Military Occupation: International Humanitarian Law Perspective. Dr Qandeel’s research has been published in leading journals, including: International Review of the Red Cross, Journal of Palestine Studies, Frontiers in Big Data, and International Journal of Humanitarian Legal Studies.
