At University of Galway, we recognise the critical role that universities must play in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The University of Galway was ranked 64th in the world (no. 1 in Ireland) in the 7th annual THE IMPACT Rankings, published June 2025, out of 2,526 institutions from 130 countries across the world. We also achieved a top 50 rank in three of the individual SDGs and a global rank in a further nine individual SDGs.
Outreach
Outreach is an important element of THE Impact Rankings. Outreach programmes or projects provide services or information to a community, for example; student volunteering programmes, events, campaigns, educational events. Educational outreach programmes are activities aimed at the local community, external to the University community. Examples include tailored lectures, demonstrations, mentorship programmes, training workshops and open seminars.
Capturing details of the wide variety and extent of outreach and engagement activities across the University is a challenge, but is particularly important for the purposes of our THE Impact Ranking submission, which asks us to provide web examples of there the "University as a body" supports outreach.

QS World University Ranking by subject 2025: University of Galway achieved a global rank in 25 subjects, up from 24 in 2025, with a top 100 Global Rank in 2 subjects.

University of Galway maintained its global top 50 rank in the 6th edition of the Times Higher Education (THE) World IMPACT Rankings 2024, with a global rank of 47 (no. 1 in Ireland) out of a total of 1,705 institutions from 125 countries across the World. It also maintained its top 50 global rankings in five SDGs.
