Scopus & SciVal Overview

Scopus – is a large multi-disciplinary bibliographic database containing abstracts and citations for over 60m academic journal articles since 1996. Encompasses over 21.5k peer-reviewed journals and 130k books. Scopus offers author profiles which cover affiliations, number of publications and their bibliographic data, references, and details on the number of citations each published document has received. SciVal is the research analytics tool for measuring metrics gathered from the Scopus dataset. Both SciVal and Scopus are Elsevier products and both offer quick, easy access to the research performance of over 8,500 research institutions and 220 nations worldwide. SciVal enables you to get access to comprehensive publication data drawn from Scopus, the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature. SciVal provides metrics from a top-level country level to an individual researcher level spreading across all subject areas or at a more granular subject area/ to sub-category subject area.

The SciVal tool consists of four different components/modules:

Overview - Get an overview of the research performance of your institution and others, based on output, impact, and collaborations.
Benchmarking – Determine your strengths and weaknesses. Compare your research institution and teams to others based on performance metrics. Model different test scenarios.
Collaboration – Identify and analyse existing and potential collaboration opportunities.
Trends- Explore new areas and investigate partners in this area.
