Wireless Network Connectivity Prerequisites
Device Security and Integrity
It is the responsibility of the user to implement a number of essential security features before connecting their personal device to the University network. It is the user's responsibility to ensure that their device is installed and configured correctly. Consult our IT Security webpages and read our ICT Policies before connecting to the University network.
Software Requirements
In order to connect to the University network, your device must fulfill the following requirements:
- The network settings must be configured to use DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol). DHCP automatically assigns valid IP addresses to stations on the network. For advice on how to configure the network client for DHCP, please refer to check DHCP.
- Your device must be running an up-to-date web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari).
- All critical operating system patches (e.g. Windows Updates) must be applied and active on the laptop.
- An active and up-to-date anti-virus software must be running on the laptop.
- A compatible up-to-date operating system: Windows 10, macOS, Android (7.1 and above), iOS or Linux.
- In order to connect to eduroam, your device must be capable of connecting to 802.11X authentication servers using TLS v1.2.
Hardware Requirements
Devices connecting to the University wireless network should be compatible with 802.11n/a/ac standards.
