Microsoft Campus Agreement
Microsoft software covered under the Campus Agreement
The Microsoft Campus Agreement only applies to staff of University of Galway and/or PCs/Macs located on campus with work-at-home rights for staff of University of Galway. It does not cover PCs owned privately by students. University of Galway has a Microsoft campus licence which is subject to renewal on 31-May.

Note: If you buy a new computer, you must purchase a base operating system from the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer). You cannot buy a ’blank’ machine and use the campus agreement to install the operating system.

Software Assurance is included for all software which means that software updates will be received for the duration of the agreement.
Software is licensed for all languages. Please note that there is an additional charge for foreign language installation CDs.
A limited amount of server licences were also purchased under the Campus Agreement for existing servers. Additional server licences can be purchased under the Academic Select licence.

Staff
University of Galway Owned Devices:
Microsoft allow for staff to download Office 365 from their Office 365 Webmail portal. This is only applicable to staff whom have a premium license.
If you go to to your Office 365 portal here,
Staff can borrow installation media from the Library & IT Service Desk. If you borrow Microsoft Office software, you are obliged to sign a license agreement form.
Staff without Premium Licenses
For staff who do not have a Premium license, use the software self service ZENworks application. This will allow you to install Office 2019 once you have a wired campus connection. This is applicable to Windows devices only
Personal Devices:
Because of the University's Microsoft licensing agreement, staff are able to download and install Microsoft Office 365 applications on up to 5 devices for free. To do this, go to https://office.com/setup.
Staff may also install and use MS Office Professional, Project and Back Office CALs on one computer they own personal desktop/laptop machine (located at work or at home) for University related business. I
Students
Because of the University's Microsoft licensing agreement, students are able to download and install Microsoft Office 365 applications on up to 5 devices for free. To do this, go to https://office.com/setup.
Microsoft software is available to Postgraduate researchers for on-campus use only i.e. researchers who have a desktop computer using a wired connection (does not include wireless connections).
The Azure Dev Tools for Teaching platform is also available to registered students to download Microsoft software for educational/research purposes.
Students can also avail of deals on certain software for use on their own personal devices from various software resellers.
Installation Information
To install software on your machine you must have administrator privileges first.
Can I install Microsoft software on my home computer?
Yes (University of Galway Staff members only).
