Disposal of old Computer Equipment
Disposal of Old Computer Equipment
The scenarios whereby you might be disposing of computer equipment are:
1. Equipment is Broken and Unusable
For further information in this regard, please visit the Building and Estates website here.
2. Equipment is to be Re-used within the University
If you have obtained a new computer and you wish to re-allocate your old computer within the University, it must be in good working order and meet the minimum specification for connection to the University of Galway wired network.
A. Ensure that your data has been backed up and removed
B. Wipe computer
Log a call with the Service Desk and arrange a time with the assigned technician to bring the unit to Information Solutions and Services. The computer will then be wiped and re-imaged with the standard University of Galway Operating System and software. You will then be notified to have the unit collected from Information Solutions and Services.
C. Node Registration
Advise the new owner of the computer that they need to complete a Node Move Form before re-connecting the computer to the campus network – details available online
3. Equipment will be Re-used outside the University
This applies to computers that do not meet the minimum specification for connection to the University of Galway wired network but are still in working order. It is recommended that these computers should be given to a charity; Information Solutions and Services recommend contacting CKI at the University of Galway for more details (email ckinuigalway.ie Tel. 091 493283).
In advance of donating the computer to charity, you need to:
A. Ensure that your data has been backed up and removed, instructions available online
B. Wipe computer
