FAQ
General
Who can use the campus printing service?
Any student or member of University staff. The service can also be used by members of the public via the Library Walk-In service.
What is a Multi Function Printer (MFP)?
A Multi Function Printer (MFP) is a dedicated device that combines the functions of a printer, a print release station, a photocopier and a scanner.
When do I use a Multi Function Printer (MFP)?
Print jobs can be sent to a Multi-Function Printer (often referred to as a 'Print Queue', i.e. when you click File, Print and select your printer) via PC's (some PC Suites), Email (only through your NUI Galway e-mail address) or Wi-Fi (requires Wireless Package download).
Why use a Multi Function Printer (MFP)?
Multi Function Printers (MFPs) allow you to manage your print jobs in the same way as a print release station does. Print release stations must be used when you are printing over the NUIGWiFi network. They also must be used when you print in a PC suite to the BW_Release and Colour_Release queues.
Multi Function Printers (MFPs) can also be used to photocopy and scan documents. The cost of photocopying and scanning will be deducted from your print credit in the same way that print jobs are. This allows for your printing, photocopying and scanning to be managed through the same central print credit without having to purchase separate copying credit.
How do I raise a support request?
- Log in to the Service Desk Ticketing System (servicedesk.nuigalway.ie) and raise a ticket.
- Drop in to the Library & IT Service Desk located in the James Hardiman Library (ground floor).
- Phone the Service Desk on (091) 495777.
- Email servicedesk@nuigalway.ie with your query.

How can I get a refund of my Print Credit?
Print Credit Refund Policy
Print credit may be re-credited but cash refunds are not made under any circumstances.
Queries relating to print jobs or print credit account transactions should be brought to the attention of the Service Desk.
Queries relating to online purchase of print credit should be made within three working days of the transaction in question.
What are your responsibilities?
- You are responsible for setting print parameters correctly at the time you submit a print job e.g. specifying either a black-and-white or colour printer. If you accidentally print black and white pages on a colour printer, you will still be charged for the more expensive output.
- Please ensure that the print job does not contain any unnecessary blank pages as these are also chargeable. You will also be charged if your print job contains more pages than was expected (this can happen with certain web pages). For these reasons, it is strongly recommend that you use the Print Preview feature within the application before submitting your print job.
Print jobs that do not print correctly due to equipment failure or malfunction will be re-printed at no charge to you by the ISS Service Desk. Alternatively, your print credit account will be re-credited by the relevant amount.
In cases where you are seeking a re-print or re-credit, you must contact with the Service Desk within three working days and you are responsible for submitting any physical evidence of the incorrectly printed job to support staff.

A small number of PC suites also contain printers that can produce A3-sized printouts.
Release Printing
For colour printing, you must submit jobs to the Colour_Release print queue. Jobs sent to this queue are held for 24 hours until you release them from a print release station. For full details of where the release stations are located see the print release station page. Black and white jobs can also be sent to the BW_Release print queue and released at any print release station.
Release stations offer you flexibility in that you can send a print job to the release queue and release it later from a variety of locations. You can also view your queued jobs and choose to delete them, at no cost, if you no longer want to print them out.
