Graduating Students
Graduating Students
- Undergraduate, research masters, and taught masters students' accounts will be disabled 180 days after their course end-date. The course end-date is usually the 31st of August of the last registered academic year. Therefore, student accounts in these categories will be disabled on the 27th February 202x.
- PhD students' accounts will be disabled 350 days after their course end-date.The course end-date is usually the 31st of August of the last registered academic year. Therefore, student accounts in this category will be disabled on the 15th August 202x.
After this grace period, students leaving University of Galway will lose access to:
- Canvas
- Campus Account Login
- All applications associated with University of Galway Microsoft 365 account including eMail, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams.
- All University of Galway IT services for students including WiFi, PC suites, Software, Printing, Exam timetables, etc.
Please Note:
- The library access has a different grace period that typically ends on the 31st of December of the last registered academic year
- This is an automated process, and it is dependent on your registration status for the current academic year
Before you graduate
Emails
Here are some handy steps to ensure you don’t lose any important email content:
- Create an Automatic Reply message to let people know that you are no longer available at this email address
- Forward or download any essential emails from your @universityofgalway.ie account to a personal email address
- Configure an Auto-Forwarding rule, which will automatically forward all emails sent to this account on to another account of your choice for a further six months
Office 365 Applications/OneDrive
If you have downloaded Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to your desktop/laptop device from the Office 365 Portal, these applications will enter a reduced-functionality mode. In reduced functionality mode, Office 365 ProPlus remains installed on the computer, but you can only view and print documents. All features for editing or creating new documents are disabled, and you will see the following message:
Here are some handy steps to ensure you don’t lose any important OneDrive content:
- Copy any files from your Office 365 OneDrive to another cloud storage location
- If you wish, you can create a new personal account on Office 365 or purchase a personal copy of Microsoft Office
Returning Students
Students returning after graduating should use the same ID number that was previously assigned to them. If a new ID is assigned to you, please contact registration at reghelp@universityofgalway.ie.
