As you are aware, the University is working to the KeepWell standard. Mental Health is one of the eight standards and there are several areas we plan to focus on in 2023 to improve how we deal with Mental Health in our community.

Firstly, we are in the process of developing a Mental Health Policy, for more information please contact niamh.kavanagh@universityofgalway.ie.

Secondly, we are looking to get some employees to be Mental Health First Aiders, and we have just completed training our first team of Mental Health First Aiders (MHFA).

This evidence-based train program will empower and equip individuals with the knowledge, skills and confidence  needed to support a co-worker  experiencing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis such as being suicidal or having a panic attack.   More information on our MHFAs will follow shortly.

Finally, we will be running Mental Health Awareness training sessions for employees and managers over the year which we would encourage you to participate in.
