Module Description: This module will provide an introduction to aspects of teaching and learning in higher education, that are particularly relevant to Graduate Teaching Assistants, part-time tutors, laboratory demonstrators and others supporting student learning. It will emphasise the importance of reflective practice, encouraging participants to analyse their teaching experience and approaches. All participants must undertake appropriate teaching practice, which may include tutorial classes, laboratory demonstrations

Indicative Content |
Teaching & Learning Completion of this module may require the student to attend workshops or seminars, complete training (including online training), maintain a reflective journal recording the student’s experience of their learning and/or completion of specific tasks or assessments. The student will be required to obtain teaching/tutoring experience during the academic year. |
Supervisor - Department-based assessment The research student will be required to be actively teaching/tutoring during the module. The supervisor will be required to verify the student's teaching experience. The student will also need to complete a peer teaching observation during the academic term. Results to be recorded on a Pass/Fail basis, with a Pass mark of 40%. Each student may only receive credit for this module once |
