Theophilus Akudjedu - PhD in Psychiatry
"I am currently registered on the PhD Psychiatry programme with current focus on brain segmentation techniques for volumetric analysis of subcortical structures in psychiatric and neurological disorders. I am also honoured to be in receipt of the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Science Postgraduate Scholarship for my study. The University of Galway is one of the leading universities in the world with top quality teaching which is research focused. The learning environment is conducive with availability of all that is necessary to bring the best in you. The faculty members are friendly and helpful and are always keeping you involved in practice. My first day here was really memorable: one of my supervisors – Dr Dara Cannon met me at the Quadrangle and walked me to the Clinical Imaging Laboratory at the University hospital Campus and introduced me to all my colleagues. That was really friendly – she came out for me. I love Galway. It’s a beautiful, colourful city that offers a free relaxed atmosphere. Irish Culture? The people are super-friendly in nature and that offers a balance to my academic life as a postgraduate student."
