Finding Accommodation

You are responsible for organising your accommodation abroad. University of Galway cannot provide this service.

Each partner university will have an Accommodation Office. This should be your first port of call for advice and support when searching for accommodation. They will have detailed knowledge of the local area and the available options.

University of Galway students who previously attended your host university may be able to recommend accommodation. You can request to be put in contact with them.

Check with your accommodation what's included before you arrive. You may find that cooking utensils are not provided and that a number of people could be sharing communal cooking and bathroom areas.

Most universities will have student residences on campus. Often this is the best option for Study Abroad accommodation because it's located close to campus, and is a safe option.

Booking

  • On Campus residences to book up quickly so apply as early as possible.
  • You will normally need to complete a booking form in advance, this could include a non-refundable booking fee at time of application.
  • You will be required to pay a deposit in advance.

Facilities / Shared Rooms

  • On campus accommodation will often be in shared room. This is particurly true for North America, you will share your room with at least one other student. Some universities have a mandatory meal plan either included or as an additional cost for on campus accommodation, and may have very limited cooking facilities. You can check what's included on the accommodation page of the partner university.

Arrival / Departure

  • Move in and out dates are strict in on campus accommodation so if you plan to arrive before term starts or remain after term ends, you will need to budget for additional accommodation elsewhere. Check the residence opening hours for key collection (reception might be closed in the evenings or at weekends).
