RELEASE OF PAST EXAM PAPERS

It is the responsibility of each Academic unit to ensure that exam papers which not to be released are so marked as part of the paper submission process.

It is important to note that any written instruction on the exam paper itself does not automatically impact on the exam paper release.

  • Staff who upload papers for their Discipline or School must verify/update the release status of each paper that needs to be withheld.  The paper release status is on the Submit/Maintain screen, which is accessible from the List of Papers screen. It is presented as a simple Yes/No dropdown list (Paper release to students). Once you change the setting for a paper, the Save Changes button will be enabled, allow you to submit the change.

  • Once a paper has been released to the public, it cannot be subsequently withdrawn, unless it has not actually been downloaded since its release.

  • The exam paper release setting for papers can only be set for papers that are uploaded.

  • At any time, staff in the Academic unit can use the main search screen to generate a list all papers for a given examination period that are currently marked for release using the search option Release to Students. The default search setting is only to show papers with students entered, but this can be changed using the Syllabus Filter option.

  • Regardless of the paper release setting, a paper will not be released if no students were entered to take it. This is most relevant to Autumn, where most examinations are repeats. If however a paper has students entered, but none of them turn up, then this cannot be detected by the paper release system. In such a scenario, the paper needs to be explicitly marked to prevent its release.

  • Release settings are maintained separately for each sitting of a paper. For example, you can choose to release the first sitting paper, and not the second sitting, or vice versa.

  • Release settings are copied from one academic year to the next. So if a paper was marked for non-release last year, it should be initially marked for non-release this year as well, although that can then be changed if so desired. However, where bonding arrangements for a set of papers change from one year to the next, release settings may not be retained.
