The Digital Humanities Research Centre (DHRC) supports and fosters high-quality research in Arts and Humanities using digitally informed methods

Digital and Computational Humanities, Data Science and AI are all becoming increasingly central methods in Humanities research. These approaches complement long-established research methods, for example by creating innovate and creative ways to access, browse, search and visualise information; generating empirical data; facilitating linking of data from diverse sources; and providing insightful metrics. With the advent of AI technologies especially, these methods can now be applied to vast quantities of data on an unprecedented scale.

The University of Galway has a very strong track record in all of these areas, with several staff members running ERC and other major projects, and many individual researchers working in this field. The DH community also has strong collaborative links with, for example, our Data Science Institute, School of Computer Science, and Centre for Creative Technologies.

The DHRC fosters a supportive and productive community in which to pursue cutting edge and ambitious DH research. Our Steering Committee offers guidance and expertise, and all researchers with an interest in DH are welcome to affiliate. We run regular events to promote exchange of ideas and community building.

We welcome contact from internal and external researchers who are interested in developing new projects with DH elements at the University of Galway.
