Overview
In this module the student will learn how to measure and compare the environmental impact of a product, a process, or a service through the application of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) models and tools.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must be over 21 years of age. Applications can be considered using Recognition of Prior Learning.
What you will Learn
Based on the ISO 14040 series Framework, the learner will gain insights about conducting a robust assessment of the environmental characteristics of systems. This will involve assessments of multiple impact categories, from midpoints such as climate change, resource depletion, land use, water use, and biodiversity. The learner will be introduced to Social LCA and Life Cycle Costing. Various cases on the application of LCA models and methods will be introduced, from manufacturing, construction, agriculture, energies and complex systems. Topics such as uncertainty in LCA modelling, transparency, data quality, and LCA limitations will be explored. This module is a science-based approach, and key tools, software, and databases will be introduced. Participants will also be introduced to Social LCA and Life Cycle Costing.
Learning Outcomes
