Overview

This module aims to broaden and build students’ repertoire of teaching strategies beyond traditional didactic approaches. Students will be introduced to the techniques and strategies of teaching groups and will have an opportunity to develop and practice their skills through role-play and simulations. Students will also explore the concept of “student engagement” and will examine how to: (1) incorporate active learning strategies into their classes and (2) use technologies to support teaching and promote student interest. Approaches to skills teaching in simulated and practice settings are also addressed.

Entry Requirements

  • Applicants must be registered healthcare professionals currently working in an Irish primary care setting.
  • Have an opportunity to teach in their current practice.  
  • To meet the module learning outcomes you must undertake a minimum of 10 hours of teaching.

What you will Learn

This is a blended learning module. Students completing this module will have the opportunity to attend lectures and seminars and seek answers to their questions on a blog facilitated by a names lecturer. The lecturer will not only answer questions on the blog but also provide opinions and share resources.
