How many guests can attend the conferring ceremony?
Each graduand will receive invitations to admit 1 graduand and 2 guests.
Live Streaming will be available in a venue adjacent to the Bailey Allen Hall, for those who do not have invitations.
Is there a fee to attend ?
There is no fee to attend the ceremony.
How can I get my invitations ?
Graduands will receive an email with further information approximately 2 weeks before the conferring ceremony.
All queries relating to invitations should be directed to conferring@universityofgalway.ie
When will I receive my degree parchment ?
Graduands will be presented with their Degree Parchment at the conferring ceremony.
What if I am unable to attend on the day ?
If a Graduand is unable to attend their conferring ceremony, they will be conferred In Absentia and their parchment will be posted to their home address within two weeks of the ceremony.
Please ensure that the home address (not term address) listed is correct on our system.

Do we have to wear robes ? If so, where can we get them from ?
Graduands must wear robes in order to attend the conferring ceremony.
Graduands may pre-book robes with the official robe-makers, Phelan Conan Limited. Robes may be pre-booked on line at www.phelanconan.com. The pre-paid hire fee is €45 or Pay on the day hire fee is €50.
Due to the implementation of a personal 3D secure password during the credit card payment process on https://www.phelanconan.com Phelan Conan Ltd staff are no longer able to take bookings over the phone. This has been created to protect your online payments and if you don’t already have a 3D secure password you can activate it by following the simple instructions during the booking process. If you experience any further problems with 3D secure process, please contact your bank.
Robes can be collected from G010-G011 ,Hardiman Building, University of Galway at the below times. It is strongly advised to collect your robe the evening before.
Cash will not be accepted. All gowns must be returned to Phelan Conan as soon as possible after the conclusion of the ceremony.
Parking & Park & Ride Shuttle Bus Service
Parking is heavily restricted on the main campus and clamping is in operation.
A park & ride service is available from the Park & Ride Carpark to the Orbsen Building (adjacent to the Bailey Allen Hall) at regular intervals.
Please see Parking Locations on Campus which indicates the location of the disabled parking spaces on the University of Galway campus. Valid parking permit is required if parking in disabled parking spaces.
Note : the conferring ceremonies will take place in the Bailey Allen Hall in Áras na Mac Léinn ( No. 6 on the map).

How long will the ceremony be ?
Each ceremony usually takes approximately 1.5 / 2 hours.
Will there be refreshments served after ceremony ?
Refreshments will be served afterwards in the HBB Building.
Will there be other venues to view the ceremony ?
The ceremony will be streamed live in a location adjacent to the Bailey Allen Hall.
Are children allowed to attend ?
As the ceremony usually takes approximately 1.5 hours , it is not a suitable event for children under 5.
Children are allowed to attend the conferring ceremony, however they will count as part of your 2 allocated guest tickets (not in addition).
In the interest of safety, prams/buggies are not permitted in the conferring hall.
