Activism and Justice

The Department has internationally regarded expertise in the history of political and social activism, especially as it pertains to struggles to tackle inequalities, such as those based on class, gender, religion, and race and ethnicity. These range from abolitionism and anti-imperialism to environmentalism and justice for institutional abuse survivors. For examples of how historians at Galway contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals 5, 10 and 16 which promote equality and justice, see the following profiles: Gearóid BarrySarah-Anne BuckleyEnrico Dal LagoTomás FinnAlison ForrestalRóisín HealyLaurence Marley, Breandán Mac Suibhne, Kevin O'Sullivan Anita Rupprecht
