Fáilte / Welcome
Thar ceann Ionad Léann na hÉireann ba mhaith liom fáilte mhór a chuir romhaibh go Gaillimh,
agus go dtí an chomhdháil seo. The fourth Galway Conference of Irish Studies marks a significant moment here at the University of Galway as we celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the establishment of the Centre of Irish Studies in Autumn 2000.
In the intervening years, the Centre has built an international reputation as a centre of excellence in interdisciplinary research and teaching, particularly in literature studies and music studies. The spirit of the work undertaken at the Centre is firmly grounded in partnerships, with visiting scholars and student cohorts, with writers and performers. These partnerships are a signature of the balance struck between Irish Studies rooted here in thisplace and Irish Studies in the wider world.
This year’s conference acknowledges the global project of Irish Studies, hosting in parallel the annual conference of the Canadian Association of Irish Studies (CAIS).
